I watched this film for the first time about 7 years ago, at a screening for my documentary film class at university. Seeing it on a huge cinema screen with live piano music was instantly electrifying and I understood why this film is a masterpiece of cinema. It was much later, that I discovered the score from The Cinematic Orchestra. It is an intoxicating hymn and I’m still amazed how well it works with the film as by itself.

If you want to experience the film with live piano accompaniment, check out the schedule of Babylon Mitte cinema, they show it on a regular basis.

Man with a Movie Camera

As you may know the russian silent documentary film ‘The Man with the movie camera’ by Dziga Vertov is one of the most important films in the history of world cinema. In 2000 The Cinematic Orchestra was asked to play a compatible live performance to accompany the screening at the Porto Film Festival.

Until today I didn’t know that their whole album was a featured work especially for this movie. Now everything fits more and more. You have to look at this wonderful piece of cinematic art in combination with the music.
